It is often said that the name 'privet' is related to private, although there is no real evidence to support this!

There are many types of plants and shrubs that are suitable as hedging plants but privet is by far one of the most common used varieties.

It needs to be maintained otherwise it can become a little untidy and unruly, but a well looked after privet hedge can be a good investment. It can act as a privacy screen or a windbreak, offer shelter to
wildlife and is an excellent choice for topiary specimens.
